Why astrology and not, say, Jesus? Or Barack Obama? Or your mother or father?
Well, they’re part of your problem, shoring up the hope that someone on the outside is going to make things right. God. The government (honey, let go of that one pronto) or your family (they have their own problems, plus, they really don’t care about you as much as you imagine.)
More bad news: Even an excellent astrologer can’t help you. In fact, as I tell my students, the only astrologer qualified to interpret your horoscope is you. It’s really no one’s business but yours. Why would you want predictions and interpretations placed in your head from someone who does not understand your history — your disappointments and dreams. All of which are symbolized in your horoscope. This of course means you’ll have to invest time, interest and discipline into astrology — you’ll need to do the hard work to understand and transform what feels stuck, blocked or leaden. Which is another way of saying: you need to wise up — and grow up.
Yes, astrology can prime the pump. Assist you in ‘asking the big questions’ — but the answers will come from you — otherwise you’ll do nothing to facilitate change. Why? Because the way you’ve been doing things is dependent on your relationships to other people — and it’s always scary to disturb that tacit agreement, which goes like this: “I’ll stay the same so you’ll continue to like, love and/or support me.” That’s a trainwreck waiting to happen, a wasted life. A lose lose situation.
More shocking news! There’s also a lot of old shit floating around your head related to your parents and their hopes and dreams for you — as well their envy and jealousy of your vitality and freedom. All children, loved or unloved, live under some kind of parental tyranny. A Saturnian double-bind that repeats, like a tape loop, because our surrvival as kids depended on it. Freud called it the superego. And it can be a motherfucker to confront. Not impossible, but it takes more than a weekend at a Louise Hay‘s love-in to crack that code.

The fantastic news. You’re alive and we’re all living through a literal, palpable revolution. All of the erstwhile structures and defenses are falling apart — including yours. Compile a list: religion, science, government, education, finance, ecology, gender roles — everything Capricorn symbolizes is decaying, dissolving and dropping away. Scary? Yes. But exciting? You bet. Consider this your chance to prove F.Scott Fitzgerald wrong: There are second acts in America. And yours is commencing now.
So my new book, Save Yourself With Astrology will help align your head with your heart. How do I do that? By showing you the ways and means of astrological alchemy.
Ancient astrologers were alchemists first and then astrologers. Comprehension of alchemy was essential, as the heavenly bodies they tracked were tied directly, via the law of correspondence, to real life earthy facts. Saturn was where they started, with the thickest and densest material: The shit that nobody wanted. The aim was to reach the Sun, the Gold. The true Self and its riches.
Save Yourself with Astrology teaches you how to work between the two extremes of your psyche. The constrained and the free. The past and the present. The shit and the gold. Saturn and the Sun. The Moon and the other planets aren’t relevant to this particular calling or equation. All of the other heavenly bodies are contained between the Sun and Saturn. The outer planets beyond Saturn are outer, beyond the bounds of the personal alchemical process. The Moon represents your infancy and we aren’t working with babyhood here — but development into adulthood, self-reliance and freedom from mother. None of those conditions and associated memories are relative to the present-based forward-looking power of the Sun. While moving from Saturn to the Sun each of the other planets, including the Moon, are touched, and transformed. But your focus is always on the reconciliation between your Saturn and your Sun. This creates the Philosopher’s Stone.
Once Saturn is alchemized your Sun becomes radiant. Life is enriched, enlivened and nourished. Without the Sun nothing lives, grows or prospers. This is true for the inner Sun, your sense of being, too. So you can see how this equation might work — all you need to do now is pre-order the book and prepare for your best year ever in 2012.
