How can astrology save you and not, say, Jesus? Or Barack Obama? Or your mother or father?
Well, they’re part of your problem: supporting the idea that someone on the ‘outside’ is going to make things right for you. God (remember, She helps those who help themselves). The government (honey, let go of that hope pronto) or your family (they have their own problems, plus — sorry to break it to you — they really don’t care about you as much as you imagine.)
No one person, institution or divine force is going to pull it all together in the way you hope. That’s really a child’s version of interacting with the world. We need to grow up. Face facts. It’s a given that the moments we are living through are peculiar. Unprecedented really. Remember that old Chinese curse: “May you live in interesting times”? Well, with a third of the population on anti-depressants it’s not a stretch of the imagination to see that we are, indeed, living in very interesting times.
More off-putting news: Even an excellent astrologer can’t help you. In fact, as I tell my students, the only astrologer qualified to interpret your horoscope is you. It’s really no one’s business but yours. Why would you want interpretations placed in your head from someone who does not understand your history — your disappointments and dreams. All of which are symbolized in your horoscope.
The good news: The basics of astrology are within your grasp. Truly! You’ll need to invest a little time and interest to familiarize yourself with the art. And my book can help. So in the end, you’ll be the one doing the ‘work’, the effort to put some of your puzzle pieces together; a fun process that facilitates your understanding, which can lead to insight. Which is a fabulous place to arrive. In the final phase it is you that needs to understand and transform what feels stuck, blocked or leaden within your nature and within your life.

Some shocking news: The heartbreak of constipation. Stay with me here… What I mean is: There’s a lot of old shit you need to confront related to your parents. Their expectations and dreams for you — as well their envy and jealousy. All parents are jealous of their child’s vitality and freedom. It’s just a fact of life for all children — loved or unloved, all of us grew up under some sort of parental tyranny. In our horoscopes this situation is symbolized by the planet Saturn.
But there’s good news here too. For all of the limitations associated with Saturn, there are benefits. We have the reality principle — a very Saturnine principle. Without Saturn there wouldn’t be a material world for us to move about in, or bodies to occupy and develop a relationship with. Nor places to sit down on, roads to drive on, or protective mechanisms within our psyche that allowed us to survive as children. Again, no matter how ideal the childhood we all needed the reality principle to act as a ballast — to bring balance — to insure development.
Freud called this function in the psyche the superego — that internalized voice of our parents that tells us what to do and not do. You can also think of it as ‘the inner critic’ — the kill joy part your nature that wants stasis over stardust because, well, magic just isn’t that practical. We argue with, sulk over, retreat from or fight with this inner critic all of the time. We want to live, to shine, to develop and grow — as symbolized by the Sun in our horoscope. But then Saturn says: “Uhm, not so fast.” Hamlet declared this conundrum quite succinctly: “To be, or not to be.”
So this tangle with our inner critic can be difficult to confront. Not impossible, but it takes more than a weekend at a Sylvia Browne séance to crack the code. Astrology does work. And my book offers specific information to help illuminate the ‘blind spots’ in life. Insight and understanding allow you to realign with the power and passion that your inner critic restricts. It’s a life long dance, but it doesn’t need to become a dirge.
The fantastic news: You’re alive and we’re all living through a palpable sociocultural revolution. All of the antiquated power structures and systems are falling apart — including yours. Compile a list: religion, science, government, education, finance, ecology, gender roles — everything tradition-worshiping Capricorn (which is — surprise! — associated with Saturn) holds close is decaying, dissolving and dropping away. Scary? Yes. But exciting? You bet.
Save Yourself With Astrology helps you align your inner critic with your heart. Gets them on the ‘same page’, in communication with one another. How do I do that? By showing you the ways and means of astrological alchemy. This book is a pracical guide book. A guide to turning your fate or fortune into good fortune. A golden life.

Ancient astrologers were alchemists first and then astrologers. Comprehension of alchemy, that magical art of combining opposites, was essential.
Why? Because the heavenly bodies the alchemists tracked were tied directly, via the law of correspondence, to real life — to earthy facts. Saturn was where they started, with the thickest and densest material: The dross that nobody wanted. The aim was to reach the true Self and its riches symbolized in astrology by your Sun sign.
Save Yourself with Astrology shows you how these two extremes within your nature can actually fall in love with one another. The constrained and the free. The past and the present. The lead and the gold. Saturn and the Sun. It’s a wonderful marriage.
Once Saturn is alchemized your Sun becomes radiant. Life is enriched, enlivened and nourished. Without the Sun nothing lives, grows or prospers. And that’s a good thing, to quote Martha Stewart.
